Silicon Photodiodes
Silicon Photodiodes are used to convert photonic energy (e.g. photons) to electrical current . Silicon has unique properties for light detection from 200nm to 1100nm as well as detection of α, β,ϒ and X-ray radiation.
Avalanche Photodiodes	Wavelength Sensitive Photodiodes
Avalanche Photodiodes (APDs) are high speed, high sensitivity photodiodes with an internal gain mechanism capable of a high gain bandwidth product. APDs are excellent for measurements at very low light levels where a fast response time is required.	Wavelength Sensitive Detectors are made up of two monolithically vertically arranged photodetectors in one chip. This combination is especially suitable for determining the wavelength of monochromatic radiation.
Position Sensing Photodiodes	Particle Detectors, X-Ray
The lateral effect Position Sensitive Detector ( PSD) is an optoelectronic device based on Silicon PIN diode technology. The PSD converts the energy from an incident light spot into a continuous, position relative, electrical output current. This position signal is relative to the total incident light pattern and indicates the “optical centre” of the incident light.	Nuclear particles and X-rays can be detected with silicon direct via absorbtion on the crystal lattice or indirect via scintillators. To do this efficent there are large absorbtive volumes and extreme low darc currents sometimes at full depleted wafers required.
